How should I get ready for my photoshoot?

Here are a few pointers on how to make yourself look your best when you are getting your picture taken by me or any other photographer.

Clothing:

First off, you should wear clothes that are comfortable and fit. We want to capture the perfect image, and it may take a while depending on what we are doing. Added stress from badly fitting clothes will do nothing to help the situation. If your uncomfortable, you will look uncomfortable in the images. Plus, trying to smile when you can not breath is pretty hard.

You should also bring a change of clothes. Try to bring different shoes and accessories as well. This is to help you and the photographer figure out the best look for the image.

This part is directed more at group portraits. You do not want to be the odd one out. If everyone is wearing dark colors, a white shirt is not the best idea. A similar color pallet is ideal for your clothing in a group portrait.

I can not stress enough how much clothing effects a photo shoot. A different shirt can change the entire mood of an image. Do not show up wearing an outfit that somebody would wear to the gym. Take pride in the fact your getting photographed. Solid colors are really the best idea. Large patterns and graphics on clothing tend to take away from the images.

Hair:

Make sure you know how you want your hair to look and do it before the shoot. Make sure its trimmed the way you want and your color is correct if you dye it. If your hair looks bad, the photo will look bad. And if you have bad hair, you should probably think about getting a hair cut. You should never try something new with your hair right before your photo shoot though. If its something new, you may not like it. You do not want to take the risk of paying for photos you do not like.

Other Tips:

If you are a guy, make sure you shave or trim your beard. Unshaven and not groomed is a bad look. If you are a girl, wear more make up than you normally would, but do not go overboard. The camera will pick up any blemishes, so try and hide them. Side note, cleaning up acne and removing stray hairs is part of my editing process. You should also get a good night sleep before your photo shoot. Nobody wants to have bags under their eyes when they are photographed.
